This is
a land of wide open spaces and timeless beauty. It is spectacular in low angle
light. Lots of cool shadows bring out the elusive mood that I strive for.
First
light, Lake Wanaka
Acrylic
on canvas 800 x 600mm
Cool
dark shadow areas and bright warm highlights gave me the inspiration for this
painting. White is interlaced with yellows, pinks and blues which reflect the
colour of light at this time of morning.

Diptych
Acrylic
on canvas 2 panels 1520 x 610mm
This
painting has an air of clarity and freshness because it captures the morning
sunshine as it hits certain features of the land leaving distinct contrasts
of light and shadow. I wanted to give the feeling of a cool winter morning and
the warmth of the sun.
Clouds
over Doubtful Sound
Acrylic
on canvas 500 x 400mm
Cloud
patterns have always intrigued me. Here they cast shadows over the land and
also give a sense of perspective as they recede into the distance.
Clutha
River
Acrylic
on canvas 500 x 400mm
In
this painting I strived to achieve the crispness of an autumn day through colour
and texture. The strong vertical shape of the poplar tree contrasts with the
horizontal lines of the river to make an interesting composition.
Lake
Pukaki
Acrylic
on canvas 900 x 500mm
The
radiant glow of the sky and calmness of the water give this painting a mood
of quiet tranquillity.
