The solidity
of land finds a fascinating contrast in the elusive quailities of water. Reflective
and transparent and always on the move, its transient effects can be hard
to capture.
Ahuriri
River
Acrylic
on canvas 500 x 600mm
Many
times an artist will overlook a possible painting scene because it is not obvious
or striking. I had often passed this setting before I saw a painting in it.
Fading
Light, Lindis Pass
Acrylic
on canvas 1200 x 750mm
I've
Painted this area many times and don't tire of it. The light in this instance
was fleeting and dramatic allowing bold shadows and wide contrasts. Even with
this drama there was a feeling of quietness and solitude.
Evening
Light, Doubtful Sound
Acrylic
on canvas 600 x 500mm
The
sky is an important part of the composition of this painting. It radiates an
amber hue as the sun struggles to penetrate the clouds. Mood has always been
a primary focus in my art.
